Rugby

Midleton CBS rugby aims to give all students an opportunity to experience and learn the sport of rugby regardless of previous experience. Our 1st year rugby programme invites all interested students to learn the skills required to enjoy rugby in a safe environment. The first year rugby team attends a series of blitzes with schools around Cork and Munster throughout the year which are 11 players a side. The schools policy is to bring as many teams as possible to allow players get game time and develop their skills.

We also connect new players to their local clubs if they are interested in taking up the sport outside of school. We currently have a number of players who started playing rugby with the school and have since joined their local clubs in Youghal, Cobh and Midleton and become key players.

The school also competes in the Mungret Cup (u19) and Mungret Shield (u16) competitions. These competitions consist of a pool stage in the first term and the knockout stage in the second term of the year. There are currently 35-40 students in both squads and the school has been competitive in both competitions in recent years.

The school are proud to have had several players have been selected to play for Munster and Ireland representative teams in the past few seasons. We hope this continues as numbers and enthusiasm for rugby in the school continues to grow.
