Knockraha Historical Society Visit School
12 March, 2019
Knockraha Historical Society visited the school last week and talked to the students about the War of Independence 1919 - 1921. They brought in rifles and a German machine gun used in the War of Independence. They also brought in grenades made in the bomb factory in Knockraha. Then they took the students on a tour of the different sites in Knockraha including Liberty Hall and Sing Sing Prison. Sing Sing was used during the War of Independence as a prison. It can only hold one or two prisoners at a time and over the course of the war approximately 100 Black and Tans or RUC members were held there. A huge thanks everyone from the Knockraha Historical Society for their interesting and informative tour.
