This year’s outdoor pursuit trip for transition year students took place in the new venue of Mount Melleray Scout Centre, at Cappoquin, County Waterford.

Surrounded by hills, the Knockmeldown Mountains and forestry with the beautiful Blackwater River meandering through the glen below it makes an ideal location for all types of outdoor activities.

We’re delighted to have secured this venue for the trip as it is a tried and tested all weather Scout centre. Its staff and the team from Outdoor Physical Exercise are highly experienced in the personal development, leadership development and team building of youth groups.

Despite the bad weather students got the opportunity to try a variety of team challenges, river runs, paint ball target shooting, laser target shooting, orienteering, self defence and judo classes, and camping out and cooking their own ration packs. A great time was had by all.

The students were accompanied on their trip by teacher’s Mr. Speight and Mr. Kennedy.

We look forward to next year and hopefully better weather to fully utilise the potential of the venue and its locality.
