Retirement of Mr. Niall Ahern
26 May, 2026
Mr. Niall Ahern has announced that he will retire as Principal of our school, bringing to a close 20 years of dedicated service to our school community.
Mr. Ahern first joined the school two decades ago as a teacher of Business and Geography. He later served as Deputy Principal before becoming Principal in 2020. His time as Principal saw him lead the school through one of the most challenging periods in education, guiding students, staff and families through COVID with calmness, care and steady leadership.

During his tenure, Mr. Ahern also oversaw important developments in school life, including the introduction of the new 58-minute timetable, work on a new extension, and grew the school to over 950 students. His leadership has been marked by commitment, professionalism, humour, and a deep dedication to the wellbeing and progress of the school community.
Beyond the classroom and the principal’s office, Niall made a lasting contribution to the wider life of the school. He was actively involved in many extra-curricular activities over the years, including accompanying students to India as part of the India Immersion Project in 2009, coaching numerous hurling teams, and supporting the New York school tour for a number of years.
We thank Mr. Ahern sincerely for his leadership, service and dedication over the past 20 years. We wish Niall every happiness, health and fulfilment in his well-earned retirement.
