Midleton CBS played their third consecutive Rice Cup Final, but unfortunately came up against a formidable Thurles CBS team in the final played on an excellent Cashel pitch. On the day nothing went right for the Midleton team, but superior hurling skills from the Tipp men ensured ensured the Rice Cup returned to Thurles. A fine display from Liam Gosnell in midfield brought encouragement to the East Cork men, but the rewards were not to be. At half time, Thurles led 1.7 to 5 pts, but some excellent shooting meant they had their hands on the cup early in the second half. They went on to win on a scoreline of 3.15 to 2.6
