A Good showing by Midleton CBS in the last quarter paved their way to overcome a stern second half challenge by St. Colman's in the Corn An Uachtaran Munster Senior BFC at Castlelyons yesterday. Despite shading matters during the entire first quarter, the East Cork side were unable to reflect their early authority on proceedings when missing with some bad wides and registered only one score in this period when Jamie Stack pointed a free in the third minute. As the progressed Colman's slowly found their feet. Alan Fenton levelled matters with a pointed free in the 16th minute and three minutes later they struck for the game's opening goal through Ronan O'Regan. Midleton's response was instant as they continued to show the greater urgency. Bill Ahern and Dave Cahill kicked over points before they were awarded a penalty in the 29th minute when Cian Haines was upended in the square with the resultant spot kick being finished to the net by Dave Cahill that helped them hold a 1-4 to 1-1 interval lead. On the changeover St. Colman's, aided by the breeze, controlled matters during the third quarter and they closed the gap to a point by the 47th minute 1-6 to 1-5. Just when the fermoy side seemed to have the upperhand, Midleton - backboned by seven of the Kilta Og team that captured the minor title, that finished the game in a flurry. With less than nine minutes remaining they struck for a crucial second goal when Cian Haines finished to the net. Futher pressure in the closing moments saw Bill Ahern (2) and Jamie Stack have points to run out deserving winners.
