Well done to all concerned on a fine victory over fellow Corkonians, Colaiste Chriost Ri. After a tentative 1st half where CBS led by 2 pts, they upped the ante in the 2nd to power home by 12pts at the end.

MIDLETON CBS exploded from the starting stalls at Cobh yesterday before earning a 12-point victory over a resilient Coláiste Chríost Rí in the Dr Harty Cup yesterday afternoon.
Midleton’s dominance around the middle third in the first-half, epitomised by superb midfielder and scorer of 0-3 from play, 0-4 overall Niall Motherway, meant they went in leading 0-12 to 0-4 at the interval with wing-forward John Good’s 0-4 from frees all Chríost Ri could muster.
Based on the statistics gleaned from this encounter Midleton were far superior than their city rivals however, that was certainly not the case in the first 17 minutes of the second half as Fergus Duggan’s charges out-scored Midleton 0-5 to 0-1 reducing the deficit to four, 0-13 to 0-9.
But the city side also hit six poor wides in that period which stunted their ability to get even closer to their opponents.
Furthermore, Midleton goalkeeper Steven Beausang brilliantly denied Calum Crowe goals on two occasions and the attacker also flashed a bullet of a shot across his far post and wide three minutes after the restart.
However, the classier outfit overall did prevail despite the Chriost Rí full-back line – Joseph Butler, Conor Horgan and Stephen Goggin – performing exceptionally.
Midleton raced into a 0-5 to nil lead inside 10 minutes with Motherway and two each from David Cahill and Shane Hegarty. Good responded but Aaron Stafford and Motherway stretched Midleton’s advantage by the 13th minute, 0-7 to 0-1.
Good (two frees) and Motherway exchanged points and then Beausang stopped Crowe’s testing shot on 22 minutes before Paudie McMahon settled Midleton again who were now in a commanding position leading 0-9 to 0-3 approaching the break.
Good continued to keep Chríost Rí in touch with another free but Bill Ahern nailed two of his own and another from Ciarán Gosnell guaranteed Midleton’s eight-point cushion at half-time.
Chríost Rí regrouped, however.
Alan O’Callaghan’s long range free was followed by Crowe’s second goal attempt that whistled wide of Beausang’s post but the city side fought on and with scores from Alan Nolan, converted frees from O’Callaghan and Good and Colm Keane brought the margin down to four as Cahill’s sweetly struck point was Midleton’s only response in the spell.
However, from there it was all Midleton again as the crafty Stafford, McMahon, Motherway, Padraig Nagle and Ahern pointed before Stafford polished off a wonderful attacking display with the game’s goal three minutes into added time.
