Under-14's capture Rice Cup

16 May, 2012

Well done to the Fé-14 Hurling Panel and Mentors on reclaiming the famous "Rice Cup" after an absence of 6 yrs. In the final played at the Fraher Field, Dungarvan, Midleton overcame a gallant Clonmel CBS High School team, which had defeated Midleton exactly a yr earlier in the final at the same venue.

Since you enter CBS, your first hurling assignment is to make the "Rice Cup" panel. This competition is run independantly by the Christian Brother network under the stewardship of Bro. O'Connor (Nenagh CBS) and the Chairmanship of Paddy Kelly (Abbey CBS, Tipperary and former Limerick inter-county hurling team). It is open to CBS teams from South Leinster and Munster. The 'Ricer' is a fitting finale to a season where this team also captured the Cork Colleges 'A' title - thus finishing the season undefeated.

Well done to all the lads and also their mentors, Brian O'Callaghan and Niall Ahern. Brian and Niall both mentored the Harty Cup team for the previous three years and this Yr started anew with the Rice Cup team, a season which begins with trials for the second two weeks and September, continuing every week throughout the school year and finishing with the last two weeks of the school year.
