David Stanton TD - Visit to CBS

22 November, 2019

David Stanton TD, Minister of State at the Department of Justice and Equality with special responsibility for Equality, Immigration and Integration, visited Midleton CBS to meet the fifth year Politics and Society classes on Friday 22nd of November. Midleton CBS introduced Politics and Society to the curriculum this year and it is expected that 63 students will take the exam for Leaving Certificate in June 2021. The students asked Minister Stanton a variety of questions such as Minister Stanton’s path into political life and how the PR-STV system operates in Irish elections. He outlined his role as the Chair of the Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality and the students gained an understanding into the committee system and the role of a TD. This was an excellent learning opportunity for all involved. Thanks to Ms. Groome for organising.

Ms. Enda Hogan (Politics & Society), Mr. Declan Hourihan (Politics & Society), Mr. David Stanton TD, Ms. Tracey Groome (Politics & Society) and Mr. Maurice Keohane (Principal).
