U15 Edmund Rice Schools Soccer Blitz

Midleton CBS, Christian Brothers College, Cork, Edmund Rice College, Carrigaline and Charleville CBS competed in the U15 Edmund Rice Schools Challenge Cup soccer blitz, today at Midleton CBS Secondary school. Both Midleton CBS and Christian Brothers College entered two teams in the competition. After a close fought group stage CBC (blue) finished top in their group after beating Midleton CBS (red) on penalties, while Midleton CBS (blue) topped their group winning both games. This meant that Charleville CBS and Edmund Rice College, Carrigaline would complete in the plate final after finshing 3rd in their groups, while both Midleton CBS and CBC sides progressed to the semi finals. After a fiercely competitive match in the plate final, the Charleville side claimed the Edmund Rice Schools Challenge plate. In the semi finals, Midleton CBS (red) beat Midleton CBS (blue) 2-1 with Eric Cunnigham scoring a stunning free kick, while CBC (white) beat CBC (blue) 3-1. Midleton CBS (red) and CBC (blue) then went on to compete in the final. In a tight game, Midleton CBS (red) won 4-3 penalties after keeper Oran Sweetnam made a tremendous save in the shoot-out to claim the Edmund Rice Schools Challenge Cup. The bronze medal match saw Midleton CBS (blue) beat CBC (white) 2-0. Thanks to all teams who competed and thank you to Butler Buses for sponsoring the event.
