CBS Make First Ever Rugby Final
The King Cup is a Junior Munster Schools Rugby Cup and is played off in a similar fashion to a round robin knock-out competition. This year 16 Munster Schools are involved and schools from all over Munster have competed in three very tough rounds. Midleton CBS has strongly taken on the charge and the final is on the horizon despite it being our first ever time participating in this competition.
In round one CBS were away to Nenagh who have won the competition for the past two years in a row. Tries from Thomas Land and Chris O’ Brien in the second half secured a victory. The final score was 12-8.
In the second round we played and beat Tralee 29-20. They put us under pressure by scoring the first try but Rory Lynch, Conor McCarthy, Conor Padden and Thomas Land brought us back into the game with individual and collective tries.
An electrifying match in round three, beating Newtown 50-3, secures our place and means we are on our way to the King Cup Final. Tries from Keilan O’ Leary, Kalem Graham, Jack Colbert and Danny McCarthy in the first half put us comfortably in the lead. The lads held their own and to confirm their eagerness to play hard and win, Tom Morrison (2) and Conor Padden scored courageous tries on the wing after a wonderful display of handling skills allowing the ball to travel to the wing. All conversions were taken by Jack Colbert with his excellent kicking style.
Final date, time and location TBC.
Well done to coaches Eoin O’ Shea, Dean Malone, Theresa Nolan and Ashling Hutchings.
