Midleton CBS won the Rice Cup for the fifth time with a decisive win over the previous year’s champions, CBS High School Clonmel on a score line of 4.12 to 1.2
The format of the Rice Cup started with a blitz in various locations around Munster, with 2 teams emerging from each section going into the quarter finals.

Midleton CBS emerged as winners from a group that included Mullingar CBS, Abbey CBS, Dungarvan CBS and Tramore CBS. This blitz was played in Dr. Morris Park in Thurles.
The quarter final was played in Ballyhea with Midleton playing Ard Scoil Rís from Limerick. It was a tight game till half time with Midleton leading but playing with a strong wind and led by 2.6 to 2pts. Midleton closed the game out with some excellent long range points from play and went on to win 3.16 to 2.3. Great displays by Josh Beausang, Garan Manley and Oliver Baverstock made sure Midleton reached the semi-final.

The semi-final was played in Cashel against a fancied Our Lady’s CBS, Templemore team. The sides were level at half time 2.1 to 7pts with it all to play for in the 2nd half. A two goal burst just after half time, with goals from Garan Manley and Killian Treacy, broke the Templemore momentum and Midleton powered on with a brilliant display of centre back play by Oliver Baverstock to win 4.8 to 1.7.

The final was against CBS High School Clonmel, a repeat of the previous year’s final, when the Tipp lads emerged as victors. As with last year, the game was played in the Fraher Field, Dungarvan.
Midleton started well and playing with the breeze went 1.2 to no score upinside the first 10 mins, with a great goal from Garan Manley. This was followed up by a Chris Power goal just before half time. Midleton led 2.10 to 2pts at half time, but were aided by a strong cross wind.
Clonmel started the 2nd half full of vigour and immediately got a goal straight from a 65. Midleton battled well, hooking, blocking and tackling as if their lives depended on it. Hurling was hard and very competitive, Chris Power goaled midway through the half and Killian Treacy scored a great individual goal to seal a great victory for Midleton CBS.
